UTI’s and Antibiotic Resistance

Diagnosing and selecting the proper medication to treat Urinary Tract Infections is challenging for many clinicians due to the time to complete a proper urine culture and rampant antibiotic resistant pathogens. Provista’s UTI Complete simplifies this challenge. While directly detecting the pathogen’s genetic fingerprint and looking for antibiotic resistant genes, Provista’s UTI Complete delivers the right pathogen and with the partnership of a licensed pharmacist the right selection of antibiotics. This reduces treatment time and increases antibiotic stewardship.

UTI Detection through PCR vs Culture

Cultures take valuable treatment time to complete and can sometimes miss secondary pathogens. Additionally, some pathogens are completely missed due to lack of culture growth. With PCR testing the genes of all pathogens tested are quickly identified and simultaneously integrated for antibiotic resistance.

Antibiotic Resistance Direct Gene Detection Culture sensitive

Provista’s UTI Complete PCR test gives the clinician quick pathogen detection and effective antibiotic treatment options based on the genetics of the pathogen. This allows the patient to receive the right medication while practicing anti-biotic stewardship and quick resolution of the symptoms.

Antibiotic Stewardship:

Every positive report is evaluated by a pharmacist and antibiotic recommendations are made based on known patient history, pathogens and the antibiotic resistant genes. This allows the clinician to quickly select the personalized treatment for the infection. Additionally, the pharmacists are available to support the clinician via telephone.

Together the clinician, Provista and the pharmacist deliver
the best outcomes for the patient and improve antibiotic stewardship.
